A fellow writer previously argued supporting a scary games classification. That would rule. So would strategy board titles, representing someone's personal cause. Yet I need to apologize in advance if I try to elbow in front because like all dedicated enthusiasts, I have a cast-iron argument for why my demand stands as crucial and significant. The demand is this: We need a category for puzzle games. Categorizing Game Types Categorizing art by genre is not a science; it’s very subjective, and typically generate discussions and end in fuzzy definitions. This explains why movie academies don’t do it. However, it represents an unavoidable compromise within the realm of video games, that demonstrate such variety they hardly constitute one unified medium. For comprehensive acknowledgment of interactive entertainment excellence to be recognized, while allowing diverse titles to have a chance for representation, classification by type becomes crucial. Current Gaming Award Categories The major gaming awards offer these award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Together, these classifications effectively encompass many game types, and you can find room accommodating various experiences. Not so for brain-teasing titles. There’s simply nowhere for their placement. Consider three of outstanding current releases, all very different: the architectural riddles of one title, fast-paced pattern recognition in a different title, thought-provoking social scenarios in another game. What category would fit them between these six categories? Simply put, no category fits. Recognition Challenges Many instances occur excellent brain-teasers released every year that have no home during gaming ceremonies, if they accidentally match award groups including Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging small studio competitions. One classic puzzle game received no recognition completely that year Another creative title received no nominations that year Well-received sorting experience was overlooked recently Only a few logic titles scraped into niche award types Importance of Logic Titles Frequently they represent compact experiences, but the art of the puzzle game is of massive significance. Well-known matching games stand as most popular titles worldwide maintaining this status for many years. The famous puzzle experience rivals popular creative games claiming status as best-selling game of all time; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks to the art of video games, while interacting across multiple categories. The Solution and Justification Puzzle games wouldn’t have such difficulty. You could fill multiple candidates with fascinating, diverse, deserving games every year with ease — perhaps, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave numerous deserving experiences. To emphasize again, these include experiences that otherwise have no home during prominent ceremonies. Logic title developers are working at the hard edge of video game design, creating some of essential manifestations of gaming itself. Similar to movie stunt professionals, they merit acknowledgment. Don't make them wait decades.
