Cancellieri Displays Glimpses of Genius in Positive Aspect for Struggling Lazio

The mood at their home stadium was anything but joyful on Saturday afternoon. Lazio were trailing against Torino, an opponent that had let in ten goals while managing only two goals in their most recent five league matches. Fans from the Curva Nord were wrapping up their most recent demonstration in an ongoing feud with chairman Claudio Lotito.

The Campaign Unraveling?

Was the team's progress unraveling, or did there exist any cohesion maintaining its structure to start with? Lazio reinstated Maurizio Sarri as head coach during the off-season, before he admitted that the management had not mentioned a registration embargo they were facing for fiscal problems. Reports that his departure was imminent were not true, but he stated that Lotito had "deceived" him.

The Biancocelesti were just as chaotic during matches as off the field, defeating Verona 4-0 and Genoa 3-0 but falling short in the remaining initial five matches, which included the capital clash. From one game to the next, it's been difficult to determine if progress is being made or self-destructing.

The Youngster's Unexpected Presence

A single player continued to smile through it. Matteo Cancellieri had not been expected to feature for Lazio during this campaign. He was on the previous campaign at Parma as a loanee and, during the summer break, his parent club were advocating for him to stay there for another season. The registration embargo forced a rethink. They were unable to weaken their team without replacements.

He signed in the first place during Sarri's previous tenure, back then just 20 years old alumnus of Verona's academy. He made 20 Serie A appearances with the club in that campaign, almost all of those from the bench. The ex- sporting director, Igli Tare, who left following that term, subsequently claimed Sarri of "informing all Cancellieri would be a star then never playing him."

Finding His Natural Fit

Perhaps the manager was persistently working to determine the nature of the player's talent. Labeled as a wide forward on arrival, Cancellieri yet was deployed for most of that campaign as an ineffective backup to Ciro Immobile in the striker role. In 63 appearances while playing for Empoli and Parma during recent campaigns, he netted seven goals. Shoehorn
